Born in Guyana and raised in the U.S., Khalil faced early challenges and identity struggles. At 21, he was convicted and imprisoned for robbery in New York. This pivotal period forged his resolve to fight for justice. While incarcerated, he confronted the prison system's harsh realities, sparking his desire to pursue change for himself and others.

Professional Journey and Advocacy

Council on Criminal Justice (August 2020 - Present):  As Director of Engagement and Partnerships, he collaborates with experts to advance criminal justice policies, fostering relationships and strategic initiatives that promote fair and effective practices.

New Yorkers United for Justice (November 2018 - July 2020): As Chief Strategist, he led campaigns to reform New York's criminal justice policies, working with diverse nonprofits and government officials to promote safety and equity.

Columbia School of Social Work (September 2015 - May 2020)  As a Lecturer, he educated future social workers, combining academic theory with practical insights to address social justice issues.

The Fortune Society (August 2017 - December 2018):** As Associate Vice President of Policy, he supported reentry initiatives for formerly incarcerated individuals and promoted alternatives to incarceration.
